Third Kabaddi World Cup to kick start in Bathinda at 6.30 pm today

The Third Kabaddi World Cup is going to be kick-started in Bathinda today amidst much fanfare. Teams from as many as 18 nations will participate in the biggest kabaddi tournament in the world.

While talking to reporters, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and chairperson of the organizing committee of the tournament, Sukhbir Singh Badal announced that a gala ceremony would be held to mark the games open. He refuted the charges of not inviting members of opposition parties for the occasion.
He expressed hope that it will be good if former Chief Minister Capt Amrinder Singh, Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar and other dignitaries attend the opening ceremony. He went on to pat his own back by saying that the Punjab Government did a great job by organizing the World Cup three years back and the game has become popular all over the world.
Seven to eight participating teams have no Indian origin players, which signifies that the game has earned good repute in all corners of the globe. Seven women teams are going to participate in the tournament.
Closing Ceremony
Pakistan Punjab’s Chief Minister Mian Mohammed Shahbaz Sharif will be the chief guest for the closing ceremony, which is slated to be held at Ludhiana on 15 December. The total cost of organizing the tournament is being pegged at Rs 20 crore. The state government pay out Rs 5.5 crore and rest of the cost will be borne by sponsors.
