CM EXHORTS TEACHERS TO PLAY A PROACTIVE ROLE IN IMPARTING QUALITY EDUCATION TO STUDENTS



CONFER DEGREES TO STUDENTS DURING ANNUAL CONVOCATION IN DASHMESH COLLEGE AT VILLAGE BADAL

          Exhorting the teaching fraternity to play a proactive role in imparting quality and value based education to the students, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today said that it would help in ensuring the overall development of the country.

Addressing the gathering during the annual convocation of the Dashmesh College here today, the Chief Minister impressed upon the teachers to deliver quality higher education to the students with missionary zeal so as to develop their overall personality. He said that in dearth of such education the meritorious students especially from the rural areas lag behind during the competition with the convent educated peers. Striking an emotional chord, Mr. Badal said that the land of this village was very sacred for him because his life had got a new direction after getting educated from here.

Terming the Dashmesh College as an example of quality education, which had hardly any match in the country, the Chief Minister said that there was no such institution across the nation for imparting quality education to the students of rural areas. He said that the students of this college have not only brought laurels for the state in the field of education but have also proved their mettle in sports and other extra-curricular activities. The students of this college like Avneet Kaur, Rubi Tomar, Milan Kaur and others have made the entire country feel proud, added Mr. Badal.

Reiterating the commitment of the state government to impart quality education to the students belonging to the poor and weaker strata of the society, the Chief Minister said that the Punjab government has set up nine new universities and 17 new colleges for this purpose. He further said that owing to the concerted efforts of the state government, Punjab today leads the country in field of education. Mr. Badal also said that special thrust was being laid by the state government to impart world class education to the meritorious rural students.

The Chief Minister said that in order to pursue this agenda six special schools were being opened across the state at the cost of Rs 150 crore to provide world class education to the bright rural students after matriculation. Likewise he said that the all the students studying in government schools but securing 80% or more marks in matriculation would also be entitled for Dr Hargobind Khurana post matric scholarship scheme under which Rs 30000 per annum would be given to them by the state government.

The Chief Minister further said that the Punjab was the only state in the country to have announced its sports policy adding that the state government had given jobs to a number of sportspersons who have excelled in the various national and international events.

On the occasion the Chief Minister handed over degrees to 262 students. Earlier the college Principal Mr. SS Sangha welcomed the Chief Minister and read the annual report of the college.

Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included ADC Mr. NS Bath, SGPC Member Mr Dayal Singh Kolian Wali, Avtar Singh Vanwala,Chairman PUNCOFED Mr. Kulwinder Singh Bhai Ke Kera and others.
